2 Sisters Storteboom to expand its activities in the Netherlands

2 Sisters Storteboom has today announced two separate agreements which will expand its position in the Netherlands.

The company has agreed to acquire Branderhorst freshfood BV in Sprundel. An agreement has been reached with owner Ad Branderhorst to integrate the Branderhorst activities into the retail division of 2 Sisters Storteboom, and combine them with the retail activities recently started by 2 Sisters Storteboom from a brand new, state-of-the-art plant in Zeewolde.

2 Sisters Storteboom and Joop Eskes, the owner of Esbro Beheer BV in Doetinchem, signed a letter of intent which provides the option to build a new slaughterhouse in Doetinchem. The plan will be developed over several months, immediately followed by the construction of the new plant. The current owner will gradually transfer his shares in Esbro Beheer BV to 2 Sisters Storteboom BV in the coming years.

Both Branderhorst freshfood and Esbro are family businesses with a long history in the Dutch poultry industry and an excellent reputation due to their personal approach and the high quality of their poultry products. The owners of both companies will remain with the organisation.

“Expanding our activities is in line with the strategic objective of 2 Sisters Storteboom to be market leader in all markets in which it operates, both in terms of volume of production and as a strategic retail partner”,explains Rob Hengeveld, Managing Director of 2 Sisters Storteboom.

“Branderhorst freshfood is an efficient, modern production company. With state-of-the-art production automation it has built a name for itself as an outstanding package supplier of poultry specialities for the retail channel. The option to build a brand new slaughterhouse in Doetinchem with Esbro would enable us to achieve a leading position in the line production of packed poultry products using the latest technology available. I look forward to working with both Joop and Ad. I am convinced that their many years of expertise will drive the professional development of our group and accelerate the realisation of the market position we aim for in the Netherlands”.

After the takeover of Storteboom by 2 Sisters in April 2010 and the takeover of Brink Poultry Products in Zeewolde, the takeovers of Branderhorst freshfood and Esbro will boost the expansion of 2 Sisters Storteboom. At the same time, the development of 2 Sisters Food Group in the UK is in full swing. It recently took over Northern Foods to reinforce its position as a leading food producer in the British market.

No information is provided about the financial details of these transactions.
